DERBY 2NDS 3 V DERBY 3RDS 2 friendly

The final pre season game to organise squads for the season and welcoming Steph,Claire and Hayley to our ranks. With Odders in goal and a squad of 14, we made an unusual start and decided to attack. Not our normal tactic. Where did all this pressure come from and are we really the 3rd team? A very spirited first 20 mins saw us 2.0 up with both goals scored by Roz (the magician.) The first was a flying reach from a cross from the left, after good work from Hayley, while the second was a lovely looping lift following Alex's brilliant early cross from the right. The later part of the first half belonged to the 2nds, who put us under pressure but our defence held firm.

Confidently we went into the second half with a change of personnel, but the better organised 2nds attached strongly. The game's turning point was a goal following a missed foul, from which our defence have to learn the lesson to play on till the whistle, at all costs. HRH followed this with an excellent strike and the third was a neat reverse tap in by Tracy on the post. Jackie then made a brilliant penalty corner save with her foot to give them a flick which Odders saved confidently from Amy B.

Somehow, we now turned tables and found our attacking formation, with their defence facing fierce pressure and Roz was unfortunate not to get her hat-trick with 2 fine shots from a penalty corner.  Our 3 new players fit in well and will add steel (and reverse stick flick type skill) to our games. 

Well done 2nds and good luck for the season. Obviously I'm thinking a draw would have been a good and fair result today.

Congratulations to Rachel on her first of many MOM days. (not bad with a borrowed stick!) Hayley and Roz were not far behind.
