With Val away this week it falls to me to try and remember what happened.
After a good tactics prep in the changing rooms (Odders just wanted to use the big whiteboard really!) we did warm up well and set off at a cracking pace from the whistle. So much so that Ella had a great opportunity on goal within the first 2 mins:). Great start and initially we kept Burton under pressure. With good passing and support play we definitely held our own, tackling effectively and distributing the ball to make forward movement and keep the play flowing. This gave us our first short corner which was struck well by Claire and only just saved on the line by their post player for a long  corner. Burton’s goal came after about 20 mins but still determined to keep pressing we held it at this up to half time.
We continued to play well in the second half but momentum gradually swung Burton’s way and after about 15 mins they scored 2 goals fairly quickly. As always it is good to see heads still up and a determination to fight back regardless of the score .
Then some injuries occurred with Juls off having received a stick to the shin which split and needed stitching (she had  shin pads on too) and Jan off after getting a stick to the throat ( which mercifully stopped her shouting from the sidelines!! )
Now down to the bare minimum we held out for the rest of the match and put a good ten min spell of pressure on the Burton defence but we still didn’t score that elusive goal.
Great game ladies to keep a strong Burton side to 3-0 and as the MotM votes show again this week a brilliant team effort. Well done to Gemma for her awesome work in goal again and being this week’s MotM.
Thanks to Amy and Scully for playing and doing a great job, Kelly for umpiring, to Kerry and Twig for looking after the injured and Catherine for stitching up Juls! Thanks supporters for braving the rain and encouraging from the sidelines.
All I can say is I’m glad it was soup for refreshments.
