Match Report

DERBY 2NDS 3  - DERBY 3RDS 2

With storm Callum blowing while temperatures soared over 20 degrees it felt like a summer league fixture.

Jackie gave us a changing room talk, and then all systems go for warm up (chat to mates on the opposing side!) and ready for action.

This was a really even, and interesting game, where players who know each other well, attempt to outplay and outthink each other. Good attacks were launched and thwarted on both sides, with the deadlock being broken by Sarah with a brilliant reverse finish, unfortunately following a back stick cross. Possession was won and lost till half time and then the Haribos did their talking.

We had a much stronger second half with Ruth, Ella, Hayley and Steph pushing forward to create more pressure, while the defence struggled to hold their forwards. Rach and Claire fought well to keep their midfield marked and this created space for Jess to get the equaliser with a confident 1-2 off a defender and a lifted shot to beat Ellie in goal. They then scored 2 more with neat finishes by HRS, before a great corner routine found Steph in the D, and she didn't need an invitation to shoot. A brilliant through ball from Steph to Jess, unmarked in the D, was sadly pulled up as lifted or a draw looked a certainty. All hands to the pump for the final 10 minutes but both gks stood firm and the score remained.

I think the players on show today shows how the club has strengthened this year, and, as in previous weeks the MOM votes spread around the team, though fortunately, not the injuries this week.

MOM Rach 4, (she did beg votes at half time though) Steph 3, Jess and Gemma 2 each, and Hayley, Jackie and Ruth 1 each.

Yet again a good performance 3rds. We will be rewarded with the deserved win soon. Bring on Buxton.

Thanks to Kurt for umpiring and thanks to Roz, our mentor and coach. Hope things go well on Monday.
