Ladies 3rd XI Vs Staveley 1

Ladies 3’s 1 - 5 Staveley 1’s

Always positive and up for the next challenge, this week it was second in the table Staveley 1’s. After a Twig warm up session we were tuned in and ready to go. It was an open game to begin with and we played some of our best passing hockey for a while and we actually had the first shot on goal. Staveley are always quick and slick on the ball and although they pressurised our D the defence were solid, with great covering back and strong clearances from Gemma. We kept a clean sheet for 30 mins this week and still had a chance to even things up with Steph having shots on goal. 1-0 at half time was a creditable scoreline. 
2nd half began a little more tentatively and some of our shape was lost on occasions which allowed a quick succession of goals from Staveley, despite some stoic goal line defending by us(even the goal post joined in twice!!). 
It is always a credit to our teams that we continue playing right up to the final whistle, still taking the game to the opposition. Some great runs by Kerry up front late on kept us in with a chance and our goal finally came after a great run out wide by Jules who took the ball forward and crossed it into the D for JanP to pick up and slide in passed their keeper, 2 mins from the end of the match. Not enough time to change the outcome but it is always a good feeling to end a game having at least scored.
