Match Report | After the high of winning against Staveley last week, the ladies prepared to go up against Findern. In spite the fact Findern were at the bottom of the table, we kept telling each other not to get complacent. It was a game with a rather bouncy ball, resorting to a strange game as there were so many perfect dummies that threw everyone, no matter who hit the ball. Derby had many attempts on goal right from the off, but there seemed to be a few holes in sticks. However, we weren’t put off and soon Becki managed to slip one in past the goalie. Findern didn’t give up and fought right from the off. They managed to have a few very good runs into our defensive circle, but between Heather, Katharine and Hilary we managed to deflect it out. Pretty much the only times Gill touched the ball was to collect it for the hit-outs! Charlotte and Hannah, as usual, made a great performance in the middle, appearing out of nowhere and making Findern run around in circles. Karen even had a good go playing in midfield, effectively backing up Chrissie, Keely and Vicki, all of whom made the ball dance to a piece of music the opposition didn’t have. Solid play in the middle. Up front, Jenny and Becki put a lot of pressure on the goalkeeper, who put on a stirling performance even with letting one goal in. Other attempts by Charlotte, Keely and Katharine were made, but we weren’t able to find a second goal. Man of the Match, well-deserved, went to Heather. |
