Match Report | Woodlands moved the ball around a lot, and showed they had some speed on them. Undaunted, we put in a lot of effort and managed to sneak the ball away, streaking away into their defensive circle. The junior players certainly put on a bit more speed and there were many attempts to get the ball into the goal. The first goal came from us, with Mia managing to find the back of the goal. Spurred on by this, we played even harder. The fresher, younger players were undeterred and even the players who had already run around for seventy minutes found some extra energy from somewhere. A second goal from Mia solidified our enthusiasm. This was, however, waned just a little bit when Woodlands got their first goal, using our centre-back Jenny as the goal-scorer. Half-time came soon after, which had all of us determined to take this win and not let another goal in. And we didn’t. If anything, Mia completed her hat-trick, her first for Derby Hockey Club. Woodlands did try and get another goal through, but Derby defended heavily and refused to give way, and we finished the game on a high. Many thanks to everyone that doubled up from the 4ths for this game. Also welcome return to Annie following her maternity leave break. Man of the Match went to Mia, a well-deserved reward for her hat-trick. |
