STAVELEY 1STS 8 - DERBY 3RDS 0

A sunny day in far off Chesterfield saw us taking enthusiastically to the field to face top of the table Staveley. They are a well organised, strong team who take no prisoners and hit us hard with 4 goals in the first half to which we had no reply. Gemma saved us many times, though the fourth saw her assist, and Karen gamely grovelling along the line in a desperate attempt to keep it out. We determined to do better second half but conceded 2 in the first 2 minutes. As usual this didn't flatten team spirit, and we worked hard to create a few chances and corners. Unfortunately, we didn't convert and they scored 2 more, the last one a brilliant top corner lob which the whole pitch applauded.  Jules showed us how to hit a ball so hard you fall over, and Odders gave a master class in footwork control. I wound up the opposition (not that they needed it!) with a excellent back stick tackle, which Biff was kind enough to allow, and a good time was had by all. Rach and Kerry took the knocks today, so the subs bench was well utilised. Refreshments were good and plentiful, with lovely jigsaw drip mats to construct. (I don't get out much!) As Ruth taught us how to stand safely from her position in the geriatric chair, we thought on Jules and Andy's forthcoming dirty weekend away in F*xton, with her naughty maid outfit packed ready. Somehow we awarded player of the match, though several of us wanted to vote for opposition members. However, Unsurprisingly, Rachel won with 4, Claire got 2, and Karen, Alex, Gemma and I got 1 each. Thanks Biff for spending another morning of fun, sun and abuse with us. Val
