Match Report | BELPER 4THS 1 - DERBY 3RDS 2
Twas a warm day in Belper, on a dry, bouncy pitch. Eyes down, and try to stop the bouncing ball time.
In came Karen, Ruth, Jackie E, Steph and Alex, therefore half a team different from last week, and we began the league fixtures. Belper 4's were promoted last season so looking for a good start. We pressured hard in the first half and peppered their goal with shots, but their GK was on top form. They hit us on the break and only a great track back and goal-line clearance by Ruth kept the score 0-0 at half time. Players were finding plenty of space and attacking play looked good.
In the second half the game opened up as players tired, and our attacking players linked well. Both of our goals came from long clearances, picked up and moved on to super Steph, who beat the GK at last. Odders had to make some timely stops, and Rach was her brilliant self, while Jackie added a quick, hard working option on the right.Sadly, with Jan off injured, and only 11 starting players, our 10 got over-run, and lack of concentration at the back gave them a goal.
This led to an exciting last 10 minutes, which we held out while still pushing for more.
Well done to Julie who has braved criticism to alter the system we play over the last two weeks, with limited availability, to play people in their stronger positions. This has given us attacking potential and 2 wins. Back to basics next week I guess!
Late start next week, so don't book an early Sat night out.
Thanks to Jill for umpiring.
MOM votes : Odders,Jan and Rach 1 each. Ruth and Jackie 2 each. Steph 3.
