Match Report

Derby Ladies 3s 1 v 2 Ashbourne 2s It was going to be an interesting game with everyone spread out across five teams this weekend. The 3s had four of the 4s players helping out, the twins getting stuck in traffic so we started with 10, and an Alex who was happy that she managed to get her kit washed in the very early hours of the morning after an evening at the pub. Apparently, 5 gin and tonics isn't drunk, and she was upright so we were happy. You wouldn't have thought that we had 10 players at the beginning, or that we had never played as a team before. We had the Ashbourne players running around in circles, creating passes and using the space. There were quite a few attempts on goal, which were annoyingly saved, but we kept pushing. When Theresa and Tracey arrived, we certainly ramped up the pressure. The play was level for most of the first half, with us going into the second half with a burst of confidence. Ashbourne must have had something at half-time, because they pretty much charged at us. With some awesome work in defence between Vicki, Jackie and Karen, their attempts on goal were thwarted each time. Julie was solid as goalie as well, kept us on our toes. Sadly, it was within the last 10/15 minutes that Ashbourne managed to get lucky breaks with short corners. But we didn't slump. We kept our heads up and we kept everything moving, pushing up each time. Not the outcome we wanted at the final whistle, but it was a good, well-fought game. MOTM votes were spread across the team, with Karen getting the overwhelming majority. MOTM votes: Karen 5, Alex 2, Ruth 2, Katharine 2, Theresa 1
