BURTON LADIES 2'S 9 – 0 DERBY LADIES 3'S

Derby 3's travelled to the Ellis Astro at Shobnall leisure centre for our second league game of the season. To be fair we all knew this would be a tough match, but we didn’t let that deter us. We had the luxury of two subs this week, which we knew we would need as we were all going to be doing a lot of running. We had six changes from the team that played at Buxton last Saturday a quick name call was needed to help familiarise ourselves with each other.

The game started brightly and with some resolute defending we kept the Burton attackers at bay, while we managed some attacking runs into the opposition half. Burton has quite a few short corners but the defence stood strong. About 20 minutes into the half we fell behind to a well taken goal, and shortly after they found the backboard again, 2-0 at half-time.

A quick pep talk and some Haribos (which were distributed in a covid secure manner!) and we were ready to go again. We started the half fairly well,  not allowing Burton to  increase their lead. Then as the minutes ticked by our lack of match fitness and Burton’s young legs caught up with us. Burton seemed to be quicker to every ball and despite heroics in the goal by Kayleigh we ended up with another seven goals going in. The scoreline wasn’t great but in truth everyone worked hard and there were some really super performances.
Player of the match votes were spread throughout the team, reflecting the effort that everyone made.
Leanne-1, Colette-1, Karen-1, Marie-3 but the runaway winner with 7 votes was Kayleigh.
Onwards and upwards to Matlock 3’s next week!
