Derby 3's 0 – 2 Matlock 3's
On a damp, grey morning Derby Ladies 3’s third league game saw us travel to Wirksworth for our “home” fixture against Matlock 3’s. A mysterious hand problem saw me standing on the side-lines this week and there was another reshuffle of players from last week which saw Val, Sue and Rachel return while Tracey and Katharine had their first games in the 3's this season.
The first half started well, with some lovely passing from the Derby ladies, Matlock were well organised and we struggled to get the ball into the D initially, but we had a couple of chances. The play was even, with both teams battling hard. Then about 10 minutes before half time Matlock managed to convert a chance despite some resolute defending by Derby. We didn’t drop our heads though and finished the half well.
Half time brought Haribos and talk of good play, and hopes for a second half equaliser. We felt that we definitely could still get something from this game. It was by no means over.
The second half started brightly and we continued to press with some lovely passages of play, just not quite able to convert to chances we had. About halfway through the second half Matlock scrambled the ball over the line after some forceful challenges on Kayleigh in goal. We kept the pressure on but despite having a couple of subs this week we started to tire and game finished 2-0 to Matlock. A disappointing result and one which really didn’t reflect the game. Again we had played well, but just didn’t get the result we thought we deserved.
Player of the Match votes were spread throughout the team showing how well we collectively played, Colette, Sue and Hazel with one vote each, Katharine, Val and Jenny with two votes each but Rachel was the clear winner with 5 votes. Well done ladies, I thought you played really well!
Next week we have our first game this season at Moorways where we play Matlock 2’s.
