Ladies 3rd XI Vs Ashbourne 2

Ashbourne 2’s 5 – 2 Derby 3's

This week the Derby ladies 3's travelled through the wind and lashing rain of Storm Aiden to Ashbourne, where the rain stopped and the sunshine came out, which was a pleasant surprise! We were optimistic that our first win of the season was possible after a good performance against Matlock 2’s last week, which saw us lose 1-0. I decided to stick with our formation from last week which had been pretty successful, so a quick pep talk and we were ready to go. 

Unfortunately Ashbourne had a great start to the game, 2 up in the first 10 minutes. We tried to get back into the game, but Ashbourne seemed to be quicker and stronger than us and we went into half-time 4-0 down. 

After a good talking to by Val, and some Haribos we decided to change our formation to try and protect our defence and give Ashbourne less space. So we reverted back to playing with two inners and two up front, instead of the diamond in midfield and three up front.

The second half got underway and the change in our formation seemed to be paying dividends. We managed to reduce their chances, and we managed to score 2 goals courtesy of Colette and Jan. We seemed to produce more chances and kept their defence relatively busy. We even managed to win some short corners! They did manage one more goal but our second half performance was a huge improvement on the first half. Final score 5-2 to Ashbourne.

Player of the match votes were spread right across the team, Kayleigh, Colette, Amy, Odders and Jackie all had one vote each. Val had two votes, but the joint winners with three votes each were Becki and Rachel. Well done everyone, we worked hard, particularly in the second half and showed what we can do. Great team spirit and a disappointing final result but lots of positives to take forward to the next game..... whenever that may be!
